The commander of the Southern Brigade of the Gaza Division, the late Asaf Hamami, was killed in a battle with Hamas terrorists on Shabbat Simchat Torah and his body is being held captive by the terrorist organization in Gaza. Today, new details were revealed regarding the moments of his fall and the intentions of the terrorists who invaded the base.

According to the report on the Ynet website, hundreds of terrorists were caught with Hamami's photo and a demand to locate the most senior officer. Nurit Pelter Eitan, Hamami's aunt, said in an interview to the Ynet website: "They ran into terrorists in Nirim after they opened the gate. There were three of them, and there were 80 Nukhba terrorists in front of them. They had photos of Assaf, they wanted to find him. They were looking for him in the base of full of fear of him and hatred of him."

She said about Asaf's last moments: "We didn't really understand the magnitude of the event on Saturday. No one understood, maybe except Asaf because he was the first to leave when there was only a touch of the fence, together with his brave soldiers Tomer Yaakov Achims and Kiril Borsky. He left first, at the head of the force, and put Alon in a war room. We know from the female officers who were with him when he put Alon in, patted his head and told him to 'be strong'. He gave him a kiss on the head and said 'I will try to return as soon as possible'. After that he He went to Kibbutz Nirim."
