A Cambridge University professor reportedly boasted about deriving satisfaction from videos of Hamas terrorists harming Israeli soldiers, sparking outrage within the academic community.
The incident was shared by a Jewish academic who reported feeling unsafe displaying his identity on campus. The academic, who chose to remain anonymous, removed the mezuzah from his door following the October 7 attacks, fearing it could endanger his family.
Recalling the encounter, the academic described being horrified when a colleague openly expressed reassurance from watching footage of Hamas militants injuring Israeli soldiers. The professor allegedly remarked that these clips “gave him reassurance about the world” and admitted to watching them whenever “feeling down about the conflict.”
This revelation comes as Jewish students at Cambridge and other elite UK universities, including Oxford, report experiencing heightened antisemitism. Incidents include swastika graffiti, verbal harassment, and an atmosphere where Jewish voices feel silenced.
The academic, who lost a family member in the October 7 massacres, lamented the loss of dialogue and civility at the university, stating: “The voice of moderation, of coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, has been lost amid this extremism.”
