Getting around town just got a lot less stressful for women in Lakewood's Orthodox Jewish community. Safe Ride, a new women-only car service, has hit the streets with a simple but powerful promise: female drivers for female passengers, no exceptions.

The idea came after community leaders raised red flags about women and girls using regular ride services with male drivers. Their message wasn't subtle: even quick trips can turn problematic if you're not careful about who's behind the wheel.

Enter Safe Ride, or "Mamish Batuach" as it's known in Hebrew (meaning "truly safe"). It's the first of its kind in Lakewood - a car service where all drivers are verified Orthodox Jewish women. No apps, no complications, just a straightforward phone call to get a ride.

"Even a short ride can lead to irreversible consequences if not handled with caution," noted community leaders in a recent open letter that sparked the service's creation. They're urging families, especially those with daughters, to think twice about their transportation choices.

The timing couldn't be better. With ride-sharing safety making headlines nationwide, Safe Ride is tackling these concerns while keeping the specific needs of Lakewood's Orthodox community in mind. Whether it's a quick grocery run or a longer trip, they're covering Lakewood and the surrounding areas.

Setting up a ride is old-school simple - just dial 844-228-8224. They've purposely kept it phone-based, making sure everyone in the community can use it, including those who don't use smartphones for religious reasons.

For Lakewood's Orthodox community, Safe Ride isn't just about getting from point A to point B - it's about peace of mind. As the service rolls out, it's already being hailed as a game-changer for women who've been looking for a more comfortable way to get around town.
