A car was deliberately set on fire, and two properties were defaced with anti-Israel graffiti in Sydney, marking the second targeted attack on the Jewish community in the area within three weeks, Australian authorities reported on Wednesday.
This incident follows an arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue, now being investigated as an act of terrorism.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the latest attack, calling it an "outrage" and vowing action. Speaking to ABC Radio, he stated, "This is an attack on people because they happen to be Jewish. The idea that we import conflicts from overseas and bring them here is contrary to the very principles Australia was built on. This is a hate crime, plain and simple."
The New South Wales state police are pursuing two male suspects, aged 15 to 20, who were seen fleeing the scene in Woollahra, an eastern suburb with a significant Jewish population.
The suspects were wearing face masks or balaclavas and dark clothing. Albanese promised to address the matter with the new antisemitism task force as investigations continue.
