CENTCOM announced yesterday that the United States had destroyed four radars and a drone ship belonging to Houthi forces.

The CENTCOM statement asserted that these actions were taken in "self-defense" as they presented a threat to the naval coalition and shipping in the area.

Maritime news site gCaptain confirmed  reports on damage caused to four undersea cables connecting Asia to the Middle East and beyond. The cause of the damage is presently unclear.

CENTCOM announced that it intercepted three cruise missiles and destroyed one unmanned submarine belonging to Houthi forces in Yemen.

The mission, which would involve at least a number of European states, is meant to solely protect ships against missiles and attacks, as opposed to the US-led mission which includes offensive strikes against the Houthis.

The US is expected to impose economic sanctions against Houthi leaders, including the freezing of assets and barring of entry into the country, in response to continued attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.

The maritime news site gCaptain reported that the Maersk Detroit and the Maersk Chesapeake, set to be escorted by the US Navy, were safe after an attempted Houthi attack near the Red Sea.

The slack in the global economy is cushioning the blow to the effective blockade of shipping through the Red Sea, but the risks are increasing.

American and British forces struck Houthi targets throughout Yemen, including missiles and launchers in the capital of Sanaa, air defense systems and radars, and underground weapons stores.

Sources in Yemen report that at least 57 Houthis were killed and several more injured in US-led coalition strikes against the Iran-backed proxy, including IRGC experts and Hezbollah activists.

According to reporting by the Wall Street Journal, the decision came in the wake of a fear of escalation in the region and a possible massive oil spill in the case of direct hits to shipping.

The British Defence Ministry announced the sending of one of its most advanced destroyers, the HMS Diamond, to help protect merchant shipping from Iran-backed Houthi attacks.
