The United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence announced that it was sending the HMS Diamond, one of its "most advanced" destroyers, to join the US-led task force protecting merchant shipping in the Red Sea, according to an official Defence Ministry statement.

According to the statement, the HMS Diamond will be joining with three US destroyers and a French vessel, presumably with more on the way. The official goal of this force is "protecting freedom of navigation, international trade and human life by countering illicit non-state actors in international waters."

Foreign Secretary David Cameron also said that "recent Houthi attacks on commercial vessels are harming the global economy, threatening regional security and risking innocent lives" on X/Twitter.
