Kiryat Ata Mayor Yaakov Peretz announced the death of a resident of the city, Staff Sergeant Nazar Itkin, in an encounter with the terrorists in southern Lebanon. He wrote: "It is with great sorrow that we were informed of the fall of a resident of the city, Nazar Itkin, z"l, an Egoz fighter, in battle in southern Lebanon."

"The bitter news arrives on the eve of the New Year and illustrates the terrible price that the war for our existence exacts from the people of Israel. Our condolences to the family who received the bitterest news of all. We will update on the date of the funeral. Nazar, Hero of Israel, the residents of Kiryat Ata salute you. May his memory be blessed"!

Earlier, details of the encounter with the terrorists were published: the Egoz unit of the commando brigade encountered terrorists inside a building. The encounter took place in one of the villages in southern Lebanon where the 98th Division is fighting. Initially, there was a suspicion of abduction – but the fear was removed and the IDF clarifies that there is no abduction incident.

Later in the incident, a medical evacuation was dispatched to the scene, and the medical forces of the commando brigade provided medical treatment under fire.

This is a complex evacuation from the complex terrain, and under threats. Even during the medical evacuation, Hezbollah terrorists continued to fire mortar shells at the forces.
