A short time ago today (Wednesday), President-elect Donald Trump said that his DEA nominee did not withdraw on his own but rather Trump "pulled him out" "because I did not like what he said to my pastors and other supporters."

Chad Chronister, the Hillsborough County Sherrif, came under increased fire among Republicans, conservatives, and Trump supporters due to his policies during COVID, which included arresting a pastor for violating COVID restrictions.

Chronister is the second such nominee to voluntarily withdraw his acceptance of the nomination, the first being former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who resigned from his seat upon being nominated to be Attorney General, only to withdraw when it became clear that the Senate would not approve him due to his multiple scandals.
