The Tel Aviv District Court approved the decision by the government to extend the ban on broadcasting of and access to the channels of al-Jazeera and al-Mayadeen for 60 days.

The effort to ban al-Jazeera from operating inside Israel was spearheaded by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and approved by the government, after defense officials agreed that the channel engages in actions which endanger the country.

Meanwhile, al-Mayadeen is a channel considered to be Hezbollah-affiliated and which also presents a danger to state security.
