Journalists' Organization Responds to Attack on Female Reporters at Ultra-Orthodox Protest

In light of reports about the assault on female reporters during a protest by ultra-Orthodox Jews against military conscription, the Journalists' Organization has issued a strong statement condemning the attack on press freedom.

“In recent weeks, we have witnessed an unprecedented wave of aggression that prevents journalists from performing their duties,” the organization stated.

Today (Monday), reporters from "Knesset Channel" and "Israel Hayom" were attacked while covering the protest against conscription at the IDF recruitment centre. Shouts of "shame" and water bottles were thrown at the female reporters present, but instead of addressing the agitators, the police on the scene chose to remove the journalists.

In response to these incidents, Eliran Hayut, acting chairman of the Journalists' Organization, issued a sharp statement: “The press in Israel, tasked with covering and reporting from the field, has been experiencing an unprecedented wave of aggression in recent weeks that hampers journalists' ability to do their job. We have contacted the Israel Police and demanded strict enforcement of the law and prompt indictment of those responsible. The organization’s team will assist any journalist who wishes to file a police complaint.”
