Hostage release, Gaza Hamas deal, Israel

Opinion: Israel Journalist, hostages will remain captive if we agree to Hamas deal

Yaron Avraham, Israeli journalist says Hamas imposed a demand that will result in the majority of hostages remaining in captivity.

Journalist Yaron Avraham describes Hamas' troublesome demand in exchange for a prisoner swap, noting: 'Israel cannot accept this demand.' Channel 12 reporter Yaron Avraham clarified on Tuesday the barrier created by Hamas for a ceasefire-prisoner exchange agreement, as well as the actual cause for the lack of advancement.

Avraham stated that despite the disputes between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, they both seem to agree on at least one aspect of the deal and the tensions between them.

He added that the agreement is focused on a scenario where negotiations will be drawn out like bubblegum between stage 1 and stage 2, with no way to find a loophole and go back to fighting. Avraham pointed out that if negotiations persist without tangible agreements, the majority of our hostages will remain with Hamas. Additionally, our international legitimacy will be non-existent, as the US will insist on continued negotiations as a condition.

Hence, Israel is unable to accept this requirement. Hamas is making progress without demanding an immediate end to the war. Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, is being clever by approaching the problem differently and putting Israel in a difficult position by changing the timetable.

Nevertheless, he stated, "I concur that Israel could display greater inventiveness, more initiative, in suggesting alternative terms, something that was not seen on Friday." Israel has only approved of this portion after initially opposing it. Hopefully, this will occur soon.
