Scary Surge in Antisemitism

"Hitler was right": Food vendor's antisemitic tirade in Rome caught on video

As tensions in the Middle East have escalated, age-old hatred has found new excuses to rear its ugly head on European streets, from Paris to Berlin to Rome. What was once whispered is now being shouted in broad daylight, even at something as ordinary as a food festival.

A disturbing incident of antisemitism at a Rome vegan food festival has sparked outrage after a vendor was caught on camera praising Hitler and verbally attacking a Jewish customer.

The confrontation began when the customer mentioned being Israeli.

Apparently that is enough to deserve an escalating stream of antisemitic abuse, which is what he got from the vendor.

The vendor also told him to "get your hands off my counter" and called Jews "the disgrace of humanity."

When the Israeli customer calmly pointed out they had only mentioned their nationality, the vendor's response turned even more sinister: "Yes, precisely – I blame you, all Israelis, all Jews. Hitler was right. It's a shame he didn't complete his mission."

Festival organizers quickly removed the vendor after the incident.

The video, later shared by leading Italian newspaper *La Repubblica*, has since gone viral, drawing hundreds of thousands of views and igniting fierce debate about rising antisemitism in Europe.

The ugly scene in Rome reflects what many Jewish Europeans have been worrying about for months - antisemitism is becoming increasingly bold and public.
