In recent months, several incidents have been recorded in which IDF fighters were killed and injured in combat in Gaza as a result of using their phones, as revealed by the military correspondent of the 'Mako' website, Shay Levy. According to the report, investigations conducted by the army revealed that the incidents occurred while the soldiers were using private phones and exposing themselves, contrary to IDF guidelines.

The report also indicates that the IDF does not know whether the soldiers who were killed and injured were spotted by Hamas observers or by technological means, although they do not rule out this possibility. In some of those cases, the soldiers moved to an exposed position due to the reception, and then they were hit.

Use of technology behind enemy lines is dangerous for IDF soldiers. Due to this forces are instructed to close their personal devices before they enter Gaza. on the contrary, use of electronic devices by the enemy has aided Israel greatly in locating Hamas and Hezbollah operatives. Many have learned from such mistakes and have chosen to go ghost, using footmen to pass along their messages rather than expose their location using devices.
