Former US President Donald Trump voiced strong support for an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities and criticized President Joe Biden for his stance against such military action.
During a speech to voters in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Friday, Trump ridiculed Biden's position, saying, “I listened to Biden yesterday … they asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran and he goes ‘as long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff.’ That’s the thing you want to hit, right?"
"I think he’s got that one wrong, isn’t that the one you’re supposed to hit?” Trump added. “It’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons.”
Biden, when asked on Wednesday if he would support an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear program, gave a firm response: “The answer is no,” he said.
By Friday, Biden suggested he would consider “alternatives” to attacking Iran’s oil infrastructure if he were in Israel’s position, saying, “If I were in their shoes, I’d be thinking about other alternatives than striking oilfields,” hinting at moves that could severely damage Iran’s economy without escalating to a direct strike on nuclear facilities.
