The IDF Spokesperson said that it was striking Beirut in a targeted manner today (Monday), presumably with the intention of eliminating a major Hezbollah target.
Channel 12 reporter Amit Segal says that the target may have been Ali Karaki, commander of Hezbollah's southern front, a rising force within the Hezbollah hierarchy and a person so secretive that there is no publicly available photo of him.
This is the first time today that the IDF has struck Beirut proper, with most of its attacks taking place in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region, with the aim of taking out rocket and missile arsenals.
The IDF struck some 800 Hezbollah targets today (Monday) throughout southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region, in what is the most intense, concentrated aerial bombardment of the war so far.
The strikes were carried out in a number of waves and based on precise intelligence, targeting structures where Hezbollah hid rockets, missiles, launchers, drones, and other military infrastructure.
