A year and a half after Nadir Dar Ahmed attempted to murder a Border Police officer and injured another officer at the Shechem Gate, the Jerusalem District Court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, probation, and compensation to the injured officer.

According to the indictment, the defendant entered Israel without the required permit, reached the Shechem Gate, sat on the lower plaza stairs for about half an hour, and then, arousing suspicion among the police officers present, began to ascend the stairs toward Sultan Suleiman Street near the police station. At this point, the officers on the scene started to question the defendant and asked him to present his identification.

After the defendant attempted to evade the police officers' questions and stated that he didn't have an ID, the officers instructed him to enter a Border Police station for a thorough check. Then, the defendant took off the bag he was carrying from his back, advanced a few steps into the station, quickly pulled out a knife from his waist, and attempted to stab one of the soldiers at the station, who pushed him back with his hand in response.

20 years in prison and financial compensation

Another soldier who was present at the scene rushed towards the defendant, and the two began to grapple while the defendant repeatedly attempted to stab him until he managed to forcefully stab him in the neck. Other soldiers at the station fired at the defendant's body. Even after being shot, the defendant continued to try and harm the soldier he was struggling with until he was neutralized. As a result of the knife stabbing, the wounded soldier was rushed to the hospital where life-saving medical treatment was administered.

The defendant was convicted of committing acts of terrorism, including attempted murder, possession of a knife, severe assault under aggravated circumstances, and illegal entry into Israel. During the evidence hearing in the case, the defendant claimed that he was merely defending himself from the police officers. However, the prosecution, through Attorney Sagiv Ozeri, presented a series of evidence to establish the defendant's true intent, including the testimonies of the soldiers at the scene.

In the end, the defendant admitted to his actions and agreed to an actual sentence of 20 years in prison. Additionally, he was sentenced to probation. Due to his attack on the soldier and following the filing of the indictment and the soldier's testimony heard in court, it was decided that the defendant would also provide financial compensation to the soldier.
