Reports That Foreign Citizen Was Killed by Gunfire in Beita, IDF: Details Under Review

After Palestinian media reported that an American citizen participating in a demonstration in the town of Beita was killed by gunfire, the IDF spokesperson said that the forces fired at an agitator who threw stones at them: "The details of the incident and the circumstances of the injury are under review."

Palestinian media reported today (Friday) that an American citizen participating in a protest against settlement activities in Judea and Samaria was killed, allegedly by IDF gunfire. In response to these reports, the IDF spokesperson confirmed that the claim is being investigated.

According to the reports, the incident occurred in the town of Beita near Nablus. Later, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew said, "We are aware of the tragic death of American citizen Ayash Noor Izgi in the West Bank and extend our condolences to her family. We are gathering information about the circumstances of her death. There is no higher priority for us than the safety and security of American citizens."

The IDF spokesperson stated, "During security forces' activity near Beita today, the forces responded with gunfire towards a central agitator who threw stones at them and posed a threat to our troops. There is a claim that a foreign citizen was killed by gunfire in the area; the details of the incident and the circumstances of the injury are under review."
