After the attack on Gallant, who decided at the end of his term to issue 7,000 enlistment orders for the ultra-Orthodox community, the new Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, announced this morning that he has decided to allow their dispatch as per the decision made.
According to the decision, the orders will be sent gradually starting this coming Sunday, in accordance with the IDF's considerations. The Minister of Defense clarified that he intends to engage in in-depth discussions with all parties to try and promote an agreed-upon solution that will enable the genuine integration of the ultra-Orthodox into the IDF, in order to ease the burden on regular, career, and reserve soldiers who fight valiantly and dedicate their lives for the security of Israel – alongside the preservation of the world of Torah, which is so important to our identity as a people and a state.
Katz clarified that the IDF will do everything to provide the Haredim with a supportive framework that will ensure their ability to fulfill their duties in the IDF while maintaining their religious lifestyle.
Chairman of the National Camp, MK Benny Gantz, responded to the decision: "I call on Defense Minister Katz and Chief of Staff Halevi to send all the recruitment orders and not stop halfway. Anyone obligated to enlist must do so by decree. We are at war. This is primarily your legal duty, but more importantly – your ethical duty."
