During a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Starmer emphasized the UK’s unwavering commitment to Israeli security and the protection of civilians. He expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions in the region, stating, “We stand with Israel and recognize her right to self-defense against this aggression,” in a televised address from Downing Street.

The Israeli military reported that approximately 180 missiles were launched from Iran on Tuesday evening, with most being intercepted. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the missile strikes were in retaliation for recent attacks that killed leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas, along with a senior Iranian commander.

Calling on Iran to cease its assaults, Starmer said, “Alongside its proxies like Hezbollah, Iran has threatened the Middle East for too long, bringing chaos and destruction not only to Israel but also to the people in Lebanon and beyond.”

He reiterated, “Britain stands firmly against such violence and supports Israel's legitimate demand for the security of its people.”

Starmer also advised British nationals in Lebanon to leave, warning that the situation is becoming increasingly serious. He stated, “If you can leave, now is the time. Do not wait.”

UK citizens in Lebanon have been urged to register their presence with government officials, and a UK-chartered flight is set to depart Beirut on Wednesday. However, some individuals reported to the BBC that they had not received confirmation or details about their bookings, despite having paid for seats. Last week, it was estimated that there were between 4,000 and 6,000 UK nationals, including dependents, in Lebanon.
