Wait. The IDF needs how many soldiers?!

Gallant: "We will need to recruit the Haredi population on a large scale"

The Minister of Defense clarified in a conversation with the fighters of Egoz that compulsory service will be extended to three years and the IDF will need to recruit more populations, including large numbers of Haredim: "I hope to be here on a visit and see Haredi soldiers within the teams."

After the Defense Minister approved the issuance of an additional 7,000 orders for enlistment among the Haredi sector yesterday, in a conversation today (Tuesday) with the fighters of Egoz, he emphasized that the IDF will increase the recruitment of Haredim.

In a conversation with the soldiers, Gallant said: "I am looking at the near future, we will need more fighters, throughout the IDF. We need to reinforce the service, which will also come with an extension of mandatory service to three years, as we did, and as was done before us for many years. We will also need to recruit additional populations, primarily Haredi populations, in large numbers."

He further added, "I hope to be here on a visit and see Haredi soldiers within the teams, within Egoz, in Duvdevan, in Maglan, and in all the other units, not just in the Commando Brigade, in all the other places, because we need to share the burden together. And in this matter, I think it also has social significance, solidarity, partnership, but the most important thing – we need security. We know how to produce ammunition, bring weapons, acquire resources, and do everything, soldiers – the people of Israel, there is no one else"
