Things Could Get Messy Quick

Will we have "Gallant night" 2.0, now?

The last time Prime Minister Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Gallant, Israelis hit the streets in massive numbers and forced a reversal. Will history repeat?

Reactions are already coming in thick and fast today (Tuesday) following Prime Minister Netanyahu's shock announcement and decision to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Yair Golan, leader of the leftwing Democrats party and himself former Deputy IDF Chief of Staff, posted a simple call on X: "Hit the streets!"

Meanwhile, State Camp party leader Benny Gantz, who sat with Netanyahu in a unity government for part of the war, said on X that this dismissal was "politics at the expense of the state's security."

Gallant himself responded on X that "Israel's security was and always will be my life's mission."

The question now remains: will Gallant's dismissal lead to a mass protest like the one during "Gallant night" in the midst of attempted legal reforms, when Netanyahu was forced to reverse himself, and will Netanyahu's government be able to survive the shockwave?
