A shocking case of alleged radicalization has emerged in southern Israel's medical community. Authorities claim a Be'er Sheva doctor pledged loyalty to ISIS while working at one of the country's major hospitals.

A resident doctor at Soroka Hospital has been charged with swearing allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS), Israeli authorities announced Thursday.

Mohammed Azzam, 34, a resident of Be'er Sheva, was arrested approximately one month ago following a joint investigation by the Israel Police and Shin Bet security service. Authorities suspect Azzam of engaging in security-related activities inspired by the terrorist organization.

According to the indictment filed by the Southern District Attorney's Office, Azzam:

- Officially joined ISIS as a member

- Pledged allegiance to the terrorist group

- Consumed large amounts of ISIS-related online content

The Shin Bet stated, "We view any involvement or connection between Israeli citizens and terrorist activities, including the Islamic State, with utmost seriousness. We will continue to work to prevent such actions and ensure those involved face the full extent of the law."

Azzam's arrest and subsequent two-week investigation concluded with the filing of formal charges. This case highlights ongoing concerns about the potential for ISIS radicalization, even among professionals in sensitive positions.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional details at this time. The incident serves as a reminder of the persistent threat of extremist ideologies and the need for continued vigilance in combating terrorism.
