The Lebanese government has approved the drafting of 6000 soldiers in order to implement UN Resolution 1701, including the disarmament of non-state actors present in southern Lebanon such as Hezbollah. 1500 soldiers will be drafted in the first wave.
The State of Lebanon has thus far failed to live up to its promise to implement the resolution, passed at the end of the Second Lebanon War in 2006, but the threat of a general war with Israel may be forcing their hand.
