New details are being released on the operation freeing soldier Ori Megidish from Hamas captivity. The IDF and the Shin Bet did not provide specific details on the operation so as not to sabotage possible future operations.

The operation was the product of intensive intelligence work by both the Shin Bet and the IDF which led to soldiers entering Gaza City during the fighting, bringing the captive back from the very heart of enemy territory. The soldier is in good condition and is at home with her family, after being debriefed by security forces and meeting with Chief of Staff Halevi.

The heroic operation was run from the Shin Bet operations room, with the Shin Bet Director and the Chief of Staff watching what’s happening. The Shin Bet entered the heart of Gaza, and while exchanges of fire took place, terrorists suffered casualties while Israeli forces did not. The Shin Bet HQ was celebrating when it was over.

In a briefing provided to military correspondents, the IDF Spokesperson said: “You ask all the time how we can do something to extract the hostages? We don’t provide details and we don’t say how, we will intentionally not say so in order to leave the options open and to say modestly that we have another 238 hostages and we have no interest to reveal any method.”
