The Tzfat Hesder Yeshiva has released a moving rendition of "Yedid Nefesh" to mark the first anniversary of Yedidya Eliyahu's fall in battle at Jabaliya. The 25-year-old soldier from Karnei Shomron left behind a wife, two daughters, and a son born after his death.

Known affectionately as "Yedid" (friend), Eliyahu was more than just a student - he embodied the yeshiva's spirit of Torah learning and joy. "We wanted to create something that captures his life, not just a picture on the wall," shares Rabbi Eyal Yakobovitz, recounting his conversation with Yedidya's widow, Meitar.

The yeshiva chose "Yedid Nefesh," originally written in Tzfat by Rabbi Elazar Azikri, set to a Breslov melody. "The tune combines devotion and longing with joy and optimism - reflecting Yedidya's unique way of serving God," explains Rabbi Yakobovitz.

The tribute extends beyond music. A weekly study group, "Or Yedidya," now draws students from across Tzfat every Wednesday evening, continuing his legacy of dedicated Torah study.

"This song isn't just a memorial," Rabbi Yakobovitz concludes. "It's a call for all Israel to connect, find joy, and draw strength. We hope it transmits something of Yedidya's light and love to all of Israel."
