In the 11th week of the war, Israeli consumer spending has returned to close to the weekly average of 2023, according to data provided to Calcalist.
The data, based on the Shva automated banking service that serves as the clearing service for credit cards in Israel, the main increase has been in the purchase of food from supermarkets and bakeries and of electronics. Meanwhile, entertainment and leisure sectors, including restaurants, continue to take a beating.
Geographical data provided by Shva points to cities in the center, Shefelah, and Sharon regions having largely recovered, with the exception of Tel Aviv, while cities such as Kiryat Shemonah and Sderot, whose residents were evacuated, still struggling mightily.
