On Election Day, United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York made a visit to the Ohel, the gravesite of the revered Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

Chabad reported the visit on Tuesday, noting that Senator Gillibrand went to the Ohel, located in the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, a site considered deeply sacred by many in the Jewish community.

The Ohel draws thousands of visitors annually, including a mix of Jewish and non-Jewish individuals, who come to honor the Rebbe’s legacy and seek spiritual solace. High-profile figures, including President-elect Donald Trump, have visited, with Trump’s recent visit marking the anniversary of the October 7 events. Each year, on the anniversary of Schneerson’s passing, about 50,000 people come to pay their respects.

During her visit, Senator Gillibrand reportedly prayed for the safety and security of Jewish communities in New York, Israel, and around the world. She also sought strength to continue her service to New Yorkers.

As is customary, Gillibrand left a handwritten prayer note at the grave, a tradition for visitors to the Ohel. Additionally, she took time to speak with a local eighth-grade student about election issues and community matters, underscoring her commitment to connecting with the next generation of leaders in the Jewish community.
