A violent altercation took place yesterday (Sunday) in Crown Heights when a reckless driver assaulted a young Hasidic Jew following a car accident. The incident unfolded at the intersection of Carroll Street and Albany Avenue.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the aggressive driver had been speeding and attempted to overtake the victim’s vehicle, resulting in a collision. When the Hasidic man stepped out of his car, the driver attacked him without warning.
Hashmirah, a local volunteer security organization, responded promptly, detaining the assailant until the NYPD arrived. Following a joint investigation, the suspect was arrested on charges of assault and reckless driving. Photographic evidence captured by Hashmirah supports the victim’s account, showing the driver crashing into the car before launching the physical assault.
In a separate event the same day, Hashmirah volunteers helped locate a missing man with Down syndrome. After identifying him on security footage mistakenly boarding the wrong school bus, volunteers ensured his safe return.
In light of these incidents, Hashmirah urged Crown Heights residents to install security cameras on their properties to enhance neighborhood safety.
