Now it's official: The Cabinet for National Security confirmed last night (Saturday) the state of war in Israel, and accordingly, it also confirmed the commencement of significant military operations. This is in accordance with Clause 40 of the Basic Law: The Government.
According to the Cabinet's statement, "The war imposed on the State of Israel through a murderous terrorist attack from the Gaza Strip began on October 7th at 6:00 AM."
The activation of the wartime clause affects compensation payments from the government to those affected by the conflict and also impacts decisions made by the Home Front Command. While the authority to activate the clause is generally vested in the government, in exceptional cases, the Prime Minister can transfer the decision to the Cabinet, as is being done in the current situation.
