The US State Department and Treasury Department imposed sanctions today (Monday) on a new list of settlers and settler institutions in Judea and Samaria, including Amana, one of the largest private companies promoting construction in settlements in the region.
The sanctions announcement claims that Amana "is a key part of the Israeli extremist settlement movement and maintains ties to various persons previously sanctioned by the U.S. government."
The statement further claims that "the settlers and farms that Amana supports play a key role in developing settlements in the West Bank, from which in turn settlers commit violence. More broadly, Amana strategically uses farming outposts, which it supports through financing, loans, and building infrastructure, to expand settlements and seize land," though it does not explain how at least some of these actions constitute violence.
The sanctions also include other individuals and construction companies linked in some way with previously sanctioned individuals by the US government for advancing violence in Judea and Samaria, far broadening the initial scope of such sanctions and giving the appearance of trying to catch all settlers in its net.
