Major General (Res.) Gershon Hacohen has issued a frightening warning about the growing threat Hezbollah poses to Israel.
In an interview with *Ma’ariv*, Hacohen revealed that Hezbollah’s military capabilities are fully intact and operational, with the group’s infrastructure extending across Lebanon. He expressed grave concern that the security challenges currently faced in southern Israel could soon extend to the north.
Hacohen criticized the uneven impact of the conflict, noting that while tens of thousands of Lebanese civilians have been displaced to safer areas, Israeli citizens remain at risk. He highlighted a significant disparity, stating that even if hostilities cease, Israeli residents from affected areas like Avivim might still seek additional security assurances.
Hacohen also cast doubt on the efficacy of potential negotiations with Hezbollah, arguing that such agreements would likely only delay future conflicts and enable Hezbollah to further enhance its military strength. He pointed out that Lebanon’s inability to control Hezbollah undermines any diplomatic efforts.
Hacohen warned that Israel must confront the reality of a long and potentially decisive conflict, urging a clear-eyed assessment of the ongoing threat.
