Federal prosecutors in Germany said on Monday that indictments had been filed against four suspected Hamas members belonging to Izz ad-Din al-Qasem, suspected of trying to obtain and store weapons for the organization in Europe.

According to a statement from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the suspects include two men of Lebanese origin, an Egyptian citizen and a Dutch citizen. They were charged with "membership in a foreign terrorist organization." The prosecutors emphasized that the men "held important positions in their organization, which had direct ties to the leadership of Hamas' military wing."

In mid-2019, accroding to the plaintiffs, Ibrahim R. built an arms depot in Denmark and transferred a pistol from it to Germany. Between June and December 2023, all four suspects left Berlin in search of another Hamas weapons depot in Poland, but were unable to find it.

The prosecution said in a statement that "Hamas has long since established underground weapons depots in various European countries, with the aim of remaining available for possible attacks against Jewish institutions in Europe."
