Following reports of riots at the airport of the Muslim-European country of Dagestan moving on an Israeli plane, the National Security Council in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Ministry is following the event with the aim of forming a clear picture.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Ministry, and the National Security Council said that “Israel expects the Russian legal authorities to protect the safety of all Israeli and Jewish civilians as such and work energetically against the rioters and the wild incitement directed at Jews and Israelis.”

The NSC also announced that according to reports in Russia, there are no Jews or Israelis on the plane which arrived from Tel Aviv. It should be noted that attacks on Jews are taking place all over the world, including in western countries. Israel’s Ambassador to Russia is working with Russian authorities to protect Israelis and Jews on site.

A senior defense official said “this event has not yet ended. A relatively limited number of Israelis and Jews are presently isolated and secured in the airport. We are working to get them to lift off from there to a connect to Moscow the moment conditions allow. Defense officials in Israel and the Israeli Ambassador are working with local defense officials. The matter is being handles via the relevant channels.”

This statement comes in the wake of reports of a mass riot in the Dagestan airport, with rioters searching for Israeli passengers and clashing with police. The moment they heard of the Israeli plan landing, many Muslims began rioting in the streets, surrounding the airport, searching for Jews in cars who left the airport and clashing with local security forces.
