Haredim still not drafting...

Recruitment bluff: The IDF sent out 3,000 orders, only 48 Haredim enlisted

In a discussion at the Attorney General's office about the enforcement of the recruitment ruling, it was revealed that the IDF sent 3,000 orders to the Haredim, of which 9.1% reported to the recruitment office, and only 48 actually enlisted, which is just 1.6%.

It was known, but today it's also in an official document. The IDF has failed to recruit Haredim, and out of the 3,000 orders it sent, less than 50 actually enlisted.

Today, a discussion was held in the office of the Legal Advisor to the Government regarding the implementation of the ruling on the enlistment of yeshiva students. The data revealed in the summary of the discussion show how many soldiers the IDF needs and how few Haredim it has managed to recruit.

According to the data, the IDF needs an additional 10,000 soldiers, including 7,500 combatants, to meet the tasks required due to the war. This figure does not only represent the regular army but assumes that the IDF will be in an increased reserve recruitment as it is now.

In light of the army's needs, there is a recruitment potential of 70,000 yeshiva students aged 18 to 26. About 916 who are considered Haredi (graduates of Haredi education) enlisted in the last recruitment cycle. The IDF issued enlistment orders to an additional 3,000 Haredim, of whom 273 (9.1%) reported to the recruitment office and 48 (1.6%) were actually enlisted.

Not to distinguish between a yeshiva student and a slacker.

According to the Ministry of Defense's plan, additional recruitment orders for 7,000 Haredim are expected to be issued next week, who will be summoned for their first draft. Galant signed the issuance of the orders, and for now, Minister Katz has not cancelled them, despite the claims of the ultra-Orthodox that the orders would be frozen.

In the conclusion of the discussion, the Attorney General ordered that recruitment orders be issued for 7,000 Haredim and that there should be no discrimination between a Haredi studying in a yeshiva and one who is outside the yeshiva framework. However, according to the needs of the army, 4,500 orders will be sent without distinction between those studying in yeshivas and those who are not, and 2,500 orders will be sent to Haredim who are not in yeshiva.

The implication of sending the orders is that from the moment the conscript does not report to the recruitment office, they enter an enforcement procedure with criminal sanctions, meaning they will not be able to obtain a driver's license or travel abroad.

Additionally, a discussion will be scheduled to review the military's progress in meeting its objectives.
