Iran pushes for massive 200% hike in military budget

Government proposal to triple defense spending heads to parliament, marking major shift in regional strategy.

Iran’s government announced plans to increase its military budget by nearly 200%, according to government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani on Tuesday, as reported by state media.

The proposed defense budget surge is part of a broader budget plan now under parliamentary review for final approval.

“A considerable raise that amounts to 200% has been included in the country’s defense budget,” said Mohajerani, without disclosing further specifics.

This move follows escalating tensions in the region; earlier this week, Israel launched Operation Days of Repentance, targeting approximately 20 sites in Iran in retaliation for the October 1 missile attack by Tehran, during which 180 ballistic missiles were fired toward Israel.

On Monday, Tehran pledged to "use all available tools" in response to Israel's strikes on Iranian military assets.
