Ronen Bar, head of the Israel Security Agency (ISA), spoke on the anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attack, reflecting on the agency's failures and commitments moving forward.

"One year has passed since we failed in our fundamental duty to protect our citizens," Bar stated. "As an organization responsible for ensuring security, we did not provide adequate warning. Today, we honour those who lost their lives, those who were kidnapped, and those who fought valiantly. We will dedicate this day to remembrance and to learning from our experiences, reinforcing our resolve to defend our country, citizens, and values."

Bar emphasized the ISA's commitment to a thorough investigation of the failures and the ongoing efforts to enhance security measures. "We are actively learning from this experience, examining the reasons behind our shortcomings, and taking steps to prevent future failures."

He highlighted the ongoing challenges the agency faces, including conflicts in Lebanon, thwarting Iranian smuggling, disrupting terrorist activities in Judea and Samaria, and defending against cyber threats. "We are also working to change the fundamental reality in Gaza," he added.

Bar recounted the immediate response to the October 7th attack, detailing how ISA teams mobilized quickly to thwart further violence. "As soon as the scale of the attack became clear, the entire ISA reported for duty. Some responded by rescuing residents, while others helped neutralize threats in various locations."

He noted the heroic efforts and rapid responses of ISA personnel during those critical moments, which he described as a testament to the agency's resilience. "From the depths of our failure, we have shown that we are unbreakable. The values and capabilities of our organization, along with the dedication of our commanders, are what define us. We will not rest until every hostage is home, and we will earn the trust of the Israeli people through our actions."

In conclusion, Bar reaffirmed the ISA's commitment to restoring security and deterrence in Israel. "By fulfilling our mission and changing the situation for the better, we honour the memory of those we've lost," he stated.
