Give peace a chance? UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon to visit Israel to try and end northern war

With Israel bombing hundreds of targets today and dozens of rockets being fired at northern Israel, the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon isn't giving up on diplomacy.

With the IDF bombing hundreds of targets a day and the entire Galilee under Hezbollah rocket bombardment, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert is in Israel today (Monday) to meet with "senior Israeli officials," according to Naharnet.

Her office released a statement to coincide with her visit, stating that "the Special Coordinator underscores that there is no military solution that will make either side safer. With the wellbeing of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line and the stability of the region at stake, space must be given for diplomatic efforts to succeed."

Efforts at diplomacy to end the northern war have been attempted ever since Hezbollah began firing on the north on October 8, but every attempt at a deal foundered due to Hezbollah's demand that Israel end the war in Gaza as well and the terrorist organization's refusal to withdraw behind the Litani river as they are obligated under UN Resolution 1701.
