MAGAV officers stationed in the Jerusalem envelope, along with IDF crossing point soldiers, were operating last night (Sunday) at the 'A-Zayim' crossing to counter terrorism and prevent smuggling from Judea and Samaria. During the routine activity, the officers identified a suspicious vehicle coming from Judea and Samaria toward the crossing and decided to stop it for inspection. During the search, the officers found approximately 210 kg of meat in the vehicle’s trunk, estimated to be worth tens of thousands of shekels. The meat, which was transported under poor conditions, was found to have been smuggled from Judea and Samaria by the suspect, a 35-year-old resident of Jerusalem.
The suspect and his vehicle were transferred for further investigation by the Central Enforcement and Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Additionally, the seized meat was sent for destruction. The police stated: "Smuggling meat into the country without oversight, as well as various sanitary violations such as transporting food without proper temperature control, suspected illegal slaughter, or meat from unknown sources, can lead to severe health risks."
