The wave of layoffs sweeping through American automotive behemoth General Motors has now made landfall in Israel. Sources indicate that numerous employees from GM’s high-tech development center in Herzliya are bracing for job losses, with pre-dismissal hearings already underway.

Established in 2008, this hub has been instrumental in crafting cutting-edge technologies for the next generation of vehicles, including AI-driven driving analysis, advanced camera systems, and sophisticated machine learning.

The Herzliya center, home to over 800 engineers, has been pivotal in developing algorithms and software that power real-time vehicle tests on Israeli roads.

Despite the upheaval, General Motors Israel issued a statement affirming their commitment to innovation: “The company is undergoing an organizational transformation to enhance the development of advanced systems for future electric, autonomous, and connected vehicles. This global initiative includes evaluating job reductions in Israel. Nevertheless, our Israeli center continues to recruit for roles in algorithm and software development, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation.”
