Israel is set to start manufacturing its own heavy bombs for the air force, responding to recent supply delays and aiming for greater military independence, according to Israel Hayom. This decision follows significant delays in receiving one-ton bombs similar to the American MK-84 due to restrictions imposed by the White House.

Historically, Israel relied heavily on the U.S. for arms, leading to the closure of many domestic production facilities under the doctrine introduced by former Chief of IDF Staff and Prime Minister Ehud Barak. However, recent conflicts have exposed the vulnerabilities of this dependence.

The new domestic production initiative will focus on heavy bombs and is expected to take two to three years. This effort is part of a broader strategy to boost domestic manufacturing of essential munitions, including tank ammunition and 155mm artillery shells.

In response to emerging security needs, Israel is set to significantly ramp up the production of heavy armored vehicles, including Merkava tanks and Namer and Eitan APCs. This decision comes as part of a strategic move to establish a new division and enhance the IDF's combat capabilities.

Prior to the recent conflict, Israel's production rate for armored fighting vehicles stood at approximately 24 units per year. This rate will now be increased to meet the growing demands. Additionally, a comprehensive rehabilitation and maintenance program is set to be implemented for the armored vehicles that saw action during the war, ensuring they are restored to optimal condition for future operations.
