Israel is currently in the midst of an outbreak that began more than a year ago, when patients were diagnosed with it in the Arava settlements and in Jerusalem, and from there it spread all over the country. Three babies have died from the disease.

The vast majority of the known infected are children under the age of 18. Some experience a fairly mild illness, but the younger the patient, the greater the risk of life-threatening complications.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, so far in the current outbreak 28 babies and one adult have needed hospitalization in intensive care units.
