About 5,000 young workers are set to come from Malawi to work in Israeli agriculture, helping to replace the Thai workers who have gone back home and Palestinian workers who are barred due to the war.

Malawi is set to send about 5,000 workers to Israel to help fill in the void left by Thai and Palestinian farm workers who either left or have been barred since the war started, according to a report by the New York Times and Calcalist.

The Malawi government described this effort as a means of providing needed employment for young people, and the Malawi Labor Minister stated that the workers will only work in agriculture, and only in areas considered safe and secure.
