Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced today (Wednesday) that the Israel Prize, traditionally awarded on Independence Day for excellence in a variety of fields, will only be given for civic heroism and social solidarity this year.

Kisch further announced that the prize will be given to six men and women who "demonstrated exceptional heroism, breathed enormous hope into the People of Israel, and made a significant contribution to the rebuilding after the terrible crisis which befell us on October 7, 2023."

According to the statement, the Israel Prizes traditionally handed out for excellence in Jewish Studies, humanities, life and exact sciences, art, and lifetime achievement will be handed out next year on Independence Day.
