The IDF is publishing today (Thursday) dramatic documentation of the action carried out by the fighters of the paratrooper brigade in the Sheikh Ejalin area, during which the fighters of the 202nd battalion encountered Hamas terrorists who opened fire on them.
In the fighting that ensued, Sgt. Yonatan Yitzhak Samo and two other fighters were injured. The fighters strived for contact, shot at the terrorists, and directed tank fire at them in combination with an air strike. Sergeant Yonatan Yitzchak Samo, deceased, was wounded on 8.11 in battle and died of his wounds on 10.11.
In the community of Karmei Zur where Samo lived, they paid tribute to him: "Blessed is the day of truth. Beit Karmei Zur announces with great sadness the passing of the son of the community, the paratrooper fighter, the soldier Yonatan Yitzhak Samo HY"D son of Ayelet and Moshe. Yonatan was severely wounded in the head last Wednesday in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, and today he died of his wounds. At this difficult time, we hug his dear Samo family and send strength to parents Moshe and Ayelet and brothers Barry, Lavi, Tamar, and Ahinoam."
