Al-Mawasi is an Arab village located on the coast. Until 18 years ago, the area was predominantly settled by Israelis and was called Gush Katif, where most of the Gush settlements were located. Due to the disengagement, the Israelis were evacuated, and in the Gaza Strip, a terrorist organization grew, which carried out acts of terror in the Gaza periphery area, including the massacre, during the celebration of Simchat Torah.
In a statement from the IDF spokesperson, it is said: "The IDF continues to call on the residents of the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City to evacuate to the Al-Mawasi area south of the Gaza River and informs of its recommendation to evacuate to open areas in western Khan Yunis, in the Al-Mawasi area."
