The War in the South: This is how the Ultra-Orthodox can Enlist in the IDF

The fighting in the south and the Israeli public's mood have led to numerous inquiries from private individuals and leaders of various Haredi groups who expressed their desire to enlist in the conflict. Various programs have been established for those with military exemptions to integrate into the system.

The fighting in the south has led to inquiries from many in the Haredi public who have expressed their desire to enlist in the army during this time of conflict. In recent days, there have been individual inquiries as well as inquiries from individuals representing larger groups.

In light of this, a plan was developed for the integration of personnel relevant to the tasks, and a policy was formulated that primarily concerns those who received an exemption from military service, especially those over the age of 26. Those who wish to volunteer can do so through three different tracks. The goal of the program is to have soldiers with personal identification numbers, who will serve as reservists in the IDF afterward.

1. Stage B Track - Recruits will undergo a short basic training and additional training if necessary, and they will then join the reserve system. This is characterized by the civilian profession aligning with the equivalent military role. For example, drivers, doctors, paramedics, and casualty identification specialists. They will undergo a short and tailored basic training, and many of them will integrate into current and future missions. The training stage is mandatory but will be shorter and customized. Following this, they will be integrated into the reserve service within the framework. It is important to note that there have been 6 cycles of such integration in the past two years.

2. Eligible Group for Exemption - Those whose military profession or military task does not necessarily involve front-line duties and does not require specialized training will undergo a shorter track with initial screening. A fitness evaluation will be conducted. Following this, they will undergo basic training and their ability to perform tasks will be assessed. For example, basic skills like chaplaincy, funeral services, and providing assistance in the field of logistics. This is a track that can also take place immediately.

3. Volunteering - Another track involves volunteering through organizations like "Sar-El," with no need for conscription or enlistment in such cases.

At the same time, programs for ultra-Orthodox individuals below the exemption age will be conducted, including "Netzach" and "Shachar." The Shachar combat training course is expected to begin in November, and efforts will be made to expand it. The recruitment of Haredi soldiers through the Natzach program will occur in the November-December cycle.

As of Friday, there were more than 1,500 registered, and it is necessary to verify their eligibility. The aspiration this week is to see the first group, and they are already discussing next week for the initiation of their basic training.

Furthermore, those who are eligible for exemption who are no longer religious and inquire about enlisting will receive a response.
