The Defense Ministry’s National Emergency Authority announced today (Friday) that it was activating Operation Breeze, which would allow the residents of the city of Sderot to evacuate to guest houses with state support.

According to the Defense Ministry’s announcement, the activation of the plan was approved by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and the Defense and Finance Ministries have agreed to jointly fund the program with the Prime Minister’s Office based on a budgetary outline summarized between the three. The program will be administered by the city of Sderot and the National Emergency Authority in the Defense Ministry.

During rocket attacks yesterday into the city, 23-year old soldier Adi Baruch was murdered while on her way from her home in Kiryta Netafim in Samaria along with another soldier after being called up for reserve duty. Another salvo fired wounded another four people, including one mortally. They were all evacuated to Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon.

Three days ago, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog visited Sderot and met with the mayor, volunteers, and soldiers. According to him: “Sderot – this is the line of heroism of the State of Israel, thit is the line of heroism for generations in the State of Israel. What we see here is the inconceivable heroism of a nation, a nation which arose from a terrible attack forced on it during its holiday, and the enormous strengths bursting forth from it are impressive, they are incredible.”
