Forces of the IDF and the Shin Bet conducted an intelligence and investigative effort in recent months, in order to thwart the activities of terrorist squads made up of students in the Hamas cells, "Hakatlah Islamiya", which operate in universities in the IOS.

During the activity, a number of terrorist squads operating at Bir Zeit University were arrested for questioning. The Shin Bet's investigation revealed that those operatives were recruited by Hamas operatives from the Gaza Strip and received weapons and ammunition to carry out terrorist attacks against Israeli targets.
