The leader of the British Labor Party, Keir Starmer, made an official visit to a Jewish school in London, where he met with the students and talked to them about Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays. In a video released today (Thursday) by the party, Starmer is seen answering the children's questions.
Among other things, Starmer was asked how he observes Rosh Hashanah, considering his wife, Victoria, is Jewish. The leader of the Labor Party responded that he "starts the year at home" and mentioned that "I love that it's a time when you can look back and also forward, and take stock."
The teacher then asked the students to tell Starmer about the sins and mistakes they made in the past year. One student mentioned that he had argued with his siblings, while another admitted, "I need to listen to my parents more." In response, the teacher said, "After Rosh Hashanah, we all need to work to help others more and be kinder to each other."
At the end of the video, Starmer pledged to the children, "We've changed the Labor Party to ensure that it includes more and represents all communities across Britain." In his words, Starmer was referring to the turmoil that followed the former party leader Jeremy Corbyn's suspension due to allegations of anti-Semitism. When Starmer took office, he committed to reducing anti-Semitism and hostility towards Jews within his party.
