Eliyahu Dehan, who was seriously injured in a terrorist attack in Jerusalem in October 2022, has filed a civil lawsuit through attorney Menashe Yadu from the organization 'Honenu' against the terrorist for an amount of ten million shekels. Last May, the terrorist was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay compensation of a quarter of a million shekels.

The severe attack took place on Sheshet HaYamim Street in Jerusalem, near the light rail station. The terrorist assaulted Dehan with a knife, brutally stabbing him. Dehan was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. The terrorist managed to escape but was eventually neutralized after a chase by a police officer in a nearby soccer field.

"The defendant saw the complainant, whom he identified as Jewish due to the kippah on his head and his clothing characteristics – a hat, long coat, and tzitzit," wrote the judges in the verdict. "The defendant followed the complainant and stabbed him forcefully in his back, with the intent to cause his death."

"In a single moment, the defendant severed the aspirations of the complainant and turned his life 'inside out'. He did so without knowing the complainant and without having any information about him other than his being Jewish. Through his calculated and cruel act, the defendant inflicted a dreadful injury upon the body and soul of the complainant, and he was but a step away from taking his life."

No price is enough to express the evil of terrorism

Attorney Chaim Bleicher, Director of the Victims of Hostility Department at the Honenu organization, stated: "Israeli citizens are facing an unceasing wave of terrorist warfare by murderous assailants fueled by the authority and the Islamic Arab leadership. These agents of evil, lovers of death, act with cruelty using any means without discrimination, in an attempt to harm Israeli citizens, murder them, and inflict suffering upon them."

"We must respond to them with a 'fiery war' and act by all means so that the people of Israel, the lovers of life, will prevail. Eliyahu Dahan, who was severely injured, is undergoing an amazing process of recovery miraculously, driven by a strong will to live. We are working together with Eliyahu to exact a heavy price from the terrorist."

"Compensatory punishment is one of the ways for an economic war against terrorism and its perpetrators. We expect the court to heed our lawsuit and award the maximum compensations, stating that no price is sufficient to express the depth of the terrorism's wickedness."
